Truma Combi 4 electrical failure Empty Truma Combi 4 electrical failure

Post by Backtrax Tue May 22, 2018 10:45 am

On my 8 year old Broadway the Truma Combi has stopped working on electricity.
I see that CC had this problem in 2016 but reading the thread I am not sure what the final resolution was.
On mine 240v supply is ok and both the 12v and 240v 'slow blow' fuses are ok
When I set the unit to electrical heat at either the 900 or 1600 watt setting and at either 40deg or 60deg setting the symptoms are the same.
The control lights come on as expected but the yellow light which indicates the 'water heating' phase remains on.
The unit does not work on 'air heating either.
All in fine on gas.
I have had the unit out, which is a bit awkward, but since I check the pump filter every 2 years I know the process to get at it.
My thoughts are that either the elements or the control board has failed.
Does anyone have any input or knowledge of where I can buy the elements?
I would also be interested to know about experiences with the Truma Service centre near Derby. Am wondering if they would do repairs if I took the unit in?

Element available here. Sit down before you look at the price. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Hi wave

Discounted to threeundred quid - them’s takin the Michael. lol4

I think you need to measure the resistance of the element(s) first just to confirm they are faulty. If so and you can’t find them cheaper you could get in touch with these people and see if they can make it for you.

A dimensioned drawing or photo is all they need. I’ve used them to make several replacements for obsolete elements and they are not all that expensive either.

They are not far from you in Liverpool so you may even be able to take the old one in.

My sister has just been quoted £450 to repair a 6E Truma on her caravan. She says she can use a lot of gas for that money but her dealer said when she comes to swop van , he would have to deduct the cost from part ex allowance so she can't win.

Thanks for the replies so far. My plan when I get home next Monday is to remove the unit, take out the elements and inspect/measure them. Thanks Brodco for the tip about the Liverpool company. I shall get in touch with them if the elements are the problem.
I had seen the price of the LeisureSpares element kit. The annoying thing is that they and others advertise selling just the elements at £99 a pair but are now discontinued. Wonder why?

Have you contacted Truma about new elements? When mine packed up on my 4e, I contacted them and they quoted me around £150 for the elements.
That was about 3 years ago and they may have gone up, but might be worth an e mail?
