Wet Lockers Empty Wet Lockers

Just purchased an Autosleeper Burford and I can't get the wet locker open with the key that I have. Any ideas:confused3:

If the key doesn't turn the lock then its the wrong key

It does turn the lock and I can feel the latch moving, but then I can't remove the key to unlock the other lock. The same happens on both locks, the key will not come out only in the locked position

The locked and unlocked positions are 90° apart. The key will not come out unless you are at one or the other of those positions. I suggest you push the door in whilst turning the lock and make sure it turns the full 90°.

I had a similar problem and a few sharp taps with something quite light, whilst gently wiggling the key at the same time did work - eventually. (I used the handle of a stainless steel table knife.)

As Peter says, give the door a push as well since only a degree or two short of 90° will be enough to stop the key coming out, plus you have to remember that these locks probably cost at least ninepence each - in "Old Money"!!!!

Fortunately they are very easy to replace. smile!

Try turning it all the way to the stop then while gently pulling towards you turn the key slowly back. Sometimes they turn too far in either locking or unlocking direction.You will get the feel of it after a while.

Thanks for your advice, but at the moment I have had no change, even using two keys at the same time, I still can't get it to open or release the keys.

On my Nuevo the only 'button' lock is on the toilet door, the others don't press.

The wet locker locks  ans gas door lock can slip slightly out of alignment and sometimes the key needs turning back a tiny bit (about 2-5 minutes clock-face) to take it out.

It's also possible that the lever on the back of the lock has slipped so much that it it still catching in a locked position.

Just to add to the confusion, our toilet door has a press lock, and so does the outside access to the underbed storage - but the wet locker definitely is not a presser.

I find that mildly annoying, since if it was a presser I could have replaced the locks with two of the spare barrels that came with the van, and had a "one key fits all" situation. Far more convenient and a less bulky key ring in the pocket.

(Apart from the Fiamma water inlet cap - before someone notices and corrects me!) hugegrins

P.S. Fred's comment about the slipping lever is worth checking. I hadn't thought of that, but it is very possible.

My Gas Locker and flush fill door have cam locks, no button, but the toilet cassette, wet locker and external under berth locker have keyed press locks. I wrongly assumed all AS were built the same. studying

Gromit, Have you tried fitting the other locks? All my locks, press and not press, and Hab door are keyed alike.

Yes - I've done it where I can. Or rather my dealer has, using his barrel extraction key.

Our previous Nuevo was a 2010 model, and that was a one key system, like yours. Why did it have to change? I can think of no logical or fiscal reason. shrugg

Thanks again for the tips it does feel as though even turning the key that the lever is not coming completely undone. Off to 3A's in Carmarthen to see if they can get in. This lock does not have a press button. As van is new to me not sure whats in the locker but would like to use it sometime. Cheers everyone

One last thought.

Try thumping the wall of the locker with your fist. Give it a few good clouts near the lock while turning the key, just in case something inside is fouling the levers. You might be able to bounce the obstruction (if there is one) away from the lock levers enough to turn them.

There is no clue in the Burford handbook and I can't find a close up photo of the locker but I'm tending to think levers rather than catch and that something like a levelling block is stopping both turning fully so I'll go along with Dace's suggestion - I have had that problem in the past.

Thanks again and the previous owner stored his ramps in there and he feels they could be blocking the levers so will start clouting tomorrow. wish me luck and thanks for your thoughts and advice

I have also had the problem when all my stuff in the locker shifts against the lever inside and generally by pushing the locker door in and turning the key with a bit more force frees it. Good luck hope you can sort it!

Thanks again everyone for your contributions and it was the clouting that solved the problem. The ramps had moved up against the door and was stopping the key turning 180. Its open now and has revealed quite a selection of ramps, one set could be used for a tank!!!!! and another for a mini!!!!

Good news, Phil. One is always recticent to resort to brute force, but your account has been a useful lesson to those of us who await the same issue.

Maybe I should take the risk into account when stuffing all the contents into the locker, to minimize the possibility of jamming. Next time, when it's not raining!
