rattles

we have just acquired a Broadway FB lovely piece of kit BUT, it has more rattles than a kids nursery.
how does one stop the window blinds rattling, ( without taking them out ) and the Cooker ??? hugegrins

Hello and welcome to this most friendly and informative forum. With regard to the cooker, some of that anti-slip shelf matting readily available from 'Poundland' type shops or virtually anywhere on-line or High Street. You could even use a tea towel laid under the glass top/shelving. Blinds (assume you refer to those in the cab) could be more problematic by nature of the flimsy design and application. Very fortunate that we don't have them as our van is a 2013 model. asof_welcome2

Hi and welcome to the forum,
I had to re-tighten all of the screws/nuts etc. (and there are a lot of them) on our cooker/oven soon after delivery and it has remained secure and quiet since.
Whilst travelling we remove and stow the oven shelves and grill pan and place a tea towel beneath the glass cooker top which also helps.
We have had no issue or problems with window blinds rattling.
As a whole, you should find that it is less rattle when fully loaded.

I endorse the comments on stopping cooker rattles. The blinds on our doors had rattles so I tightened up the screws with some effect and stuck bits of rubber draught excluder between the blind casing and the door.
All else fails, turn up the radio snigger

This is the best advice yet. That, or get some ear plugs. up!

Modern tyres and rough road surfaces create enough noise to make conversation difficult, so a few rattles from the rear are usually fairly insignificant by comparison. It's all but impossible to stop them all (and you could drive yourself potty trying) so if you can, it's best to tune them out and ignore the ones you can't cure! shrugg

Alternatively get a caravan. At least then you don't hear your crockery smashing when you hit a speed bump a bit too fast! lol4

Having recently taken delivery of a Nuevo EK I have the same problem.

After the first trip I identified a major rattles were the poor fitting catches on the overhead cupboards also the chrome button rattles in its fitting.

As a temporary fix I used blur tac to stop the rattles

The van is with the dealer on Tuesday and I trust they will fix it

I'll let you know.

I've driven 3 different types, and been a passenger in a few others over the years and I know one thing - they rattle! From the little autocruise we hired last year, to my father's all-singing all-dancing super Hymer, they rattle. Ironically, my Dad's Hymer (massive wonga) was possibly the worst, and my 14 year old Nuevo is the best so far... smile!

. As Gromit says, you could drive yourself nuts trying to cure them all!!

This is my third Motorhome following ownership of a Burstner Travel Van and a Knaus Sky 1

Both took a couple of trips out to sort out the rattles, but in both cases manager to cure 90% of them.

Once identified I find it a challenge to cure it.

I feel confident that Motor Plus my local Autosleepers dealer (and where I purchased the Nuevo from) will sort most of it out.

I've also owned several vans and the one with the least rattles is my present 2004 Nuevo EK. what rattles there were I've now mostly cured. 90% can be traced to the cooker or fridge. The hardest to trace was more of a squeak. To trace this I got my wife to drive while I crept round the van putting my ear to every joint. It turned out to be where the shelves come to rest on the fridge housing worktop. Squeezing a little clear sealant in the joint cured the problem.

Get a cheap stethoscope, or even a toy one if it works, and do the same as Al did.

I got the idea many years ago from watching a garage mechanic diagnosing a knock in an engine by poking a stick in his ear. He probed on the engine block with the other end, and was able to home in on the problem very effectively.

I would not recommend the stick method for the van. It might come out of the other ear if the wife drives over a pothole!! lol4

You can stop cupboard rattles by using some of those little stick on rubber dots you get in any hardware store...or...cut a small piece of draught excluder, wrap cutlery in a tea towel, put grip mat between things and around things, eventually you will eliminate 90% of rattles, we always wrap oven trays etc in non slip matting but some people remove them and put them under the seat cushions.

As above I have never been in a motorhome that didn't rattle, it is just time and experience to identify the little devils and cut them down.

They will stop anyway as soon as you get to France on proper roads so best just take a holiday!

Yes, the motorhome fairy comes along on the tunnel and replaces our van with one virtually rattle free just as we get onto the French motorway. Sadly the reverse applies on our way home.

BTW, our cab bonds rattle too and we've not managed to solve it yet.

I have two silicone laptop covers the ones with zips, grill pan in one roasting tins etc. in the other, stay in the oven on the shelves, no rattles at all from the cooker, have non slip shelf covering over the hob and another on the glass lid, rattles cured., coffee / tea tins cover with ski socks one cut down into two, same for wine bottles.. window blinds I use the soft rubber ear plugs bright colours so easy to see. Velcro pads on the cupboard doors. happy with my van now .cotton jersey drawer string bags, home made to fit, saucepans, kettles, individually. rubber heatproof mat on top of cutlery in the drawer.

Our Nuevo EK does rattle pretty badly (mainly the overhead cupboards as others have suggested). Have got all the usual (tea towel on cooker lid / bubble wrap round grill pan / rubber mats / plastic bubbles on cupboards and under furniture protector) but still I would say quite noisy! We just accept it but will have another go to eliminate before our next big trip.

Do people use the custom made crockery holders as I think my crockery cupboard could be better??

I have the plastic crockery holder, plates wedged with cardboard plates to fit tighter so stops them rattling.

Agree with you Helen, a complete waste of space in a small van.

I made my own so now we have all the crockery, mugs, beakers, whisky glasses and a supply of paper plates to save washing up - all in the one cupboard above the fridge. None of them rattle either, which is more than can be said for the rest of the van! shrugg

What Dave.............you don't lick your plate clean to save washing up biggrin

We use the fine set of crockery supplied by A/S (except the mugs) and the custom fitted rack, but only on site. It all goes back into the cooler bag when travelling. My wife does the packing of cupboards so we're pretty rattle free.........and so is the motorhome look here
