Nuevo EK/ES owners

As the 'future' owner of an ES, I'd be interested to know if you use the rear steadies on your van and if you think they are really necessary.

Never used 'em, then removed them when I made & fitted the tow-bar, they're quite heavy so offset the tow-bar weight quite a bit hugegrins

Nuevo rear steadies Empty Re- Neuvo rear steadies

Post by burlingtonboaby Thu Oct 18, 2012 3:50 pm

Hi ho Silver
Couldn't resist that, sorry hugegrins
I have a 09 ES without steadies and found it very stable when static, I have had a recent set of AL-Ko air suspension units fitted and this has firmed up the rear springs even more. up!

The only reason I kept the steadies on our Legend over the years is because I wanted to keep it in original condition. Used them a couple of times when we first got the van, makes little to no difference.
Cheers

Thanks to all of you for your replies.

I wondered if a relatively shorter van would need them. I suspect if I have them they would only be used occasionally.

Hi Silver,
Our series 1 Lancashire ES (Marquis special Neuvo) has rear steadies and we have never used them even on an exposed pitch in a force 9 gale, the van did rock slightly but it didnt worry us. On the suggestions of this thread I will now be removing them.

That is an almost unanimous set of opinions. I do wind them down every now and again to stop them seizing up, but thinking about it I suppose that we never notice any rocking anyway. It is not an end bed model............ biggrin

Do you just remove the lock nuts from the mounting nearest the rear of the van? I assume the threaded end is secured inside somehow so the bolt will not turn as you remove them and did you put the nuts back on.
Also after removing the nuts and bolts at the mounting towards the front do you have to put them back on?
Just want to be sure before I attempt to remove the steadies.

Is it advisable to wait until it is out of warranty?

P.S. Just looked at A/S website and the new Nuevo EK says in the description " Pre-prepared for Optional Rear Corner Steadies " so they must have decided they are not essential! smile!

Nuevo rear steadies Empty Re: Nuevo rear steadies

It surprises me how much effort people go to to stop their vans moving... we've seen bottle jacks under the chassis and even axle stands directly under the towbar scratch head seems to me like a lot of bother to go to... (never mind the weight of carrying this stuff around) maybe on a longer van with more of an overhang over the rear wheels they are needed more but never really noticed it being a problem for us.

Thanks for the PM.
Just to confirm we never used the rear steadies on our Nuevo ES. In fact i've never used them on any of our coachbuilt vans and all have come with them fitted. I never saw the need for them and was always worried that if I did put them down I might forget when driving off!!! Whistle1

Been away for 17days in our new EK Neurvo. Used the steadies a few times. Made a difference when working in the kitchen. Stopped van rocking.

we had a couple of other problems that I need advice on. I will start a new post later.

Silver,

Silver,
We used ours on our Sigma for the first time this year, we were parked overlooking the sea at Durness, North Scotland with a force 8 gale blowing. Very exciting but did get buffeted around a bit so we lowered the steadies which did help and made sleeping more comfortable. It seems to me if you need to loose the weight then make sure you have a sheltered camp site, not so exciting though!!

Used mine on my first trip, then never again, removed them years ago to reduce a bit of weight on the rear.

Hi

Took mine off last week, very simple. 15mm and 13mm socket and ring spanners. Whole thing took about 45mins. Didn't even have to jack the van up.

Then took them to the Tip.

Cheers Andy up!
