What cost of living crisis? Empty What cost of living crisis?

Yesterday while visiting a neighbouring town we thought we'd have a bit of lunch before coming home, after calling at six cafes only to be told all tables were either taken or reserved, we gave up and drove home. Ok it was Saturday, shops were busy and it was quite a sunny day, so perhaps we were expecting too much.
Out for a Sunday walk through our own wet and misty town today, I noticed every eating establishment was not only open but packed..

We found similar two Sundays ago, very large pub in middle of nowhere, we couldn't  book a table until 3pm. Heaving, car park full we had to park on road and Sunday  lunch 15.95 for 1 course. No shortage of money there. I hasten to add my son paid .

You ain't seen nothing yet. Watch the trollies being filled with needless junk in the run-up to Christmas. But the real cost of living crisis will only become apparent in January when the major retailers announce increases in their sales. We'll know then why folk can't afford to pay their energy bills.

Well tomorrow has arrived, but nothing really has changed.
Yesterday we met up with my sister and decided on lunch at a local village tearooms. It's quite a large place, a bit expensive, but packed, with folk queueing outside the door waiting for a table, 45 minute wait we were told. This is Tuesday mid-afternoon.
Never mind, we decided on a pub not far away, quite full and doing a roaring trade. We last went to this pub in late November, reasonable meal prices back then, with most costing £10.95. We were a bit taken aback to see those prices had risen to £14.95..
Maybe we're all spending our children's inheritance...

Heinz soups £1.75 a can in the supermarkets. I have a very short memory but it does tell me that a few months ago Heinz soup was 50p a can.
I'm not paying that, and besides someone I met told me that she was a professional retail food analyser and Aldi Tomato soup is superior in every way to Heinz. And it costs 67p
