New Nuevo ES owner saying hello

Just bought a brand new Nuevo ES from Spinney in Cheshire. Will collect in a couple of weeks. First motor home. Any advice?

Be careful when opening roof vents  they stick to the seal  and destroy the cranking mechanism ,I brake the seal with a credit card and take some of the weight with my other hand .hand brake is very low and hard to reach .also fowls the drivers seat when swiveling .consider taking video at your hand over tour their is a lot to take in . the Manuel is huge  .enjoy you're great  new van .

A wise decision...motorhoming is addictive ! 

Welcome to the forum and, don't forget, if you do have any glitches etc while away- perish the thought- there is usually someone on here who can help with speedy advice. If you are parked near another motorhome then knock on their door and ask for help too. Most parts of a motorhome are common to all makes so chances are they will know what your problem is and we have never yet found anyone unhelpful.

Don't buy too much " stuff" at first; it all weighs in against your payload and, if you really find you need something, either improvise or buy it later. I bet there are few of us without a spare room or attic full of unwanted stuff. Try not to buy from specialist camping shops. They are much more expensive for the basics.

Try to keep everyday items ( bedclothes, towels, pans, etc) specifically for the van and in the van. Minimises the chances of you going away and forgetting something.  

Keep important account numbers and phone numbers ( insurance company, breakdown insurance number etc) along with details of your van  somewhere easily accessible. If you do need to call for help then you will need all these numbers to hand and, while your mobile phone bill is racking up, you don't want to be searching for them.

Make sure you get your Spinney Club membership, it gives discount in the shop and cafe and invite to their annual rally (first weekend July I think).

Thanks everyone. Just been looking at some of the pubs etc that offer overnight stops, very tempting. Are there any Nuevo ES specific issues I should be aware of? Any tips on the best essential kit we might need for parking up? This M.H. comes with a fitted canopy, Not sure if there will be any levelling chocks etc.

If the van is brand new then it will not come with levelling blocks. . Dealers tend to remove anything the previous owner left in second hand vans on grounds of Health and Safety. Opinions vary: some people can sleep and eat with a fair degree of slope, others must be dead level to feel comfortable. Wait until you know where you fit. You can always rake up some gravel or dig a hole for the offending wheel ! They are quite heavy and bulky.

You should get a new EHU lead with a new van and can try asking for one if van is not new. Ditto things like fire extinguisher, fire blanket, smoke alarm and carbon monoxide alarm. If the van is secondhand then do your own battery check on the alarms.

If you intend to use the awning then buy good pegs and an awning tie down kit: a strong strap that goes across the whole thing and the hefty pegs that go with it. These awnings have a tendency to fly up and tear chunks out of the van side if they are not firmly pegged down and restrained. Don’t leave it out if you are leaving the van.

You will need some way of getting fresh water into your van and some means of removing the waste water. We have a length of hose, a submersible pump, and a red ( dirty water) and a green ( clean water) bucket but there are all sorts of other methods.
