Broadway Peugeot First Service Empty Broadway Peugeot First Service

Post by BornAgain Wed Feb 21, 2018 11:47 am

My Auto-Sleeper Broadway is due for its 2 year service and I am fortunate that I have a local Company that can do the habitation check, however, the Peugeot base vehicle is also due for its first service and that is a different matter. I have been told by the many Peugeot dealers that the vehicle needs to be in the workshop and raised to get at the sump and that this requires heavy duty ramps that most garages don't possess. There are any number of Peugeot dealers within easy reach of where I live (near Marlow, Bucks) but at the moment it is booked in about 40 miles away. Cost seems around £330 but I was quoted £640 by one place!

Is this a problem for all motorhomes?  How do lorries get serviced!?

Many MOT stations have high roofs and can accommodate motorhomes. Where I go for my MOTs is such a place. Once out of warranty, I'd get it serviced elsewhere that can take high vehicles (it'll be cheaper than main dealers as well. Search for MOT stations that do Class 7

Turns out we have a Class 7 service centre in our village, literally around the corner! Brilliant advice, thanks. Unfortunately for this year I need the temperature sensor fixing under warranty but definitely next year.

That's about what I paid at Peugeot main dealer for my Warwick's first service after 2 years. Price included brake fluid change which seems to be a Peugeot requirement every 2 years and they do not test it and would not alter their service plan, cost £60 so I had no choice brought the bill £345 inclusive.

I did change the oil after 12 months, laying on my back in the drive!

As Paul say's next time will source out a local garage.

PS just remembered our local Council do MOT's on class 7

I've been using a local garage for the last 17 years specialising in vans for all my servicing, MOT and repairs. They have the experience and knowledge of the type of vehicles and quite reasonable on price.
MOT and oil change one year and MOT and full service the next. It is not often now that you don't see a Motorhome in their garage.
Not had anything they haven't been able sort as yet so I would recommend always find a local specialist if you can.

Post by Sunbeampizza Wed Feb 21, 2018 8:33 pm

My broadway is five years old and a local commercial garage provides an interim service for £270 which is basically just engine oil, filter, air filter. However the oil and filters changes on a boxer are simple to do at a fraction of that cost and I do this myself but still have the garage do a full service every three years to include changing the brake fluid etc. Don't quite understand BornAgain's garage remark re lack of room underneath to get at the sump plug as there is just room to work under the engine bay to access the drain plug and filter. If you use levellers to help it is even simpler but use supports and wheel chocks also and don't confuse the oil and gearbox drain plugs . I have done this on cars for years and get materials on line for around £50. The saving pays for the van's anual tax.

Why do Peugeot recommend changing brake fluid so often, there was a discussion on this several months ago...re is it really necessary, I’ll hazard a guess that it’s overly cautious.

My guess would be easy money.

Both our Ford cars are serviced at a main Ford Dealer and have never had the brake fluid changed yet, just tested for moisture, I was told that on certain days due to weather conditions, every vehicle could fail the moisture test. scratch head

I could concede that moisture will get into even the best sealed system Richard.
But like your ford, my Volvo has had one change of brake fluid over 12 years..
I feel ripped of by a service carried out by dealers when the manufacturer extols the virtues of a reliable vehicle...but will only guarantee it if you pay to change items way before the expiration

I have found out that we have a Kwik-fit a few miles away who will do what they call a “manufacturers” service on commercial vehicles including motorhomes which will preserve the warranty. It’s very reasonably priced and of course includes brake fluid change because Peugeot require it. Unfortunately I need some minor warranty work (outside air temperature is reading incorrectly - faulty sensor?) and Peugeot insist that it can only be done by their dealers so back to square one. I will be able to use Kwik-fit in future for service and MOT.

Some good advice here including DIY but I gave up servicing my own vehicles many years ago. Also, having spoken now to about 6 garages, they all insist that the vehicle must be in their workshop and on the ramps which of course imposes limitations. I can understand that because their working practices, particularly safety, would require that.

I’ve just booked in for first service had the same problem been turned away due to size, then I had to refuse a main service at £400 ish and managed to book an interim service for £188 that’s with pentagon group, I’ll be doing it myself once the vehicle is out of warranty without heavy duty ramps.

My first service is due in April, so have booked my MH into my local family owned garage. You don't have to go to a Peugeot dealer as long as your chosen garage use Peugeot parts or equivalent quality.

This is a very good garage with an excellent reputation and I know all will be taken care of. I do request that they use Fiat parts, making sure there is no problem with any possible future warranty issues.

If you know of such a garage near you, you could do the same.up!

As I said above, I can get a “manufacturers service” locally (albeit Kwik -fit) but I have a small warranty repair so it has to be a Peugeot garage at least for this year.

Broadway Peugeot First Service Empty service costs

I have to say that a service cost of £300 sounds OK to me. I have a BMW motorcycle and am often charged £450 ish for a major 12K service by the dealer. It has to go!

I'd agree with those who say "don't go to Kwik-Fit for anything other than tyres". I've come across some fairly good staff at Kwik-Fits but... it doesn't happen often... If they are any good and know what they are doing, they won't stay at Kwik-Fit for long!

My main concern would be "do they use the right grade of oil"?

One never knows, but a good garage should have all the correct lubricants etc to hand.

Great news and a great price. I don't think many Motorhome dealers get involved with the van mechanical side of things, you have found a good one. smile!

None down our way as far as I know. think_smiley_46

I had my 2 year service done at Warners Gloucester 2 years ago. They charged me £460. As for customer service they were diabolical. Problems with warranty work. Could never get hold of Serice  Manager. Never phoned me back even though I left numerous messages. I will never take it back there. Maybe they have had a change of service personnel since then?

I have mine services every 2 years. First was about £350, 4 year was just under £400 and have just booked 6 year for £309. That is at Robins & Day, Modern where my van squeaks in with about an inch clearance - they have a guy up a step ladder checking as it is driven in and out!

My first service last June with a Peugeot approved garage cost me £228.98 [+ £40 for the recommended brake fluid change]. Noticed they had overfilled with engine oil later. I've seen much lower prices cited on this forum when using a local garage. This year I will do my own basic servicing, next year I will use a reputable and trusted local garage.

Broadway Peugeot First Service Empty Re: Broadway Peugeot First Service

Post by Maasai Warrior Thu Mar 01, 2018 12:25 pm

We have just had our van serviced and MOT’d by Hillwood Autos near Tamworth. They service commercial vans, motorhomes, cars, lorries etc. I took in Peugeot's sheet from their previous two year service schedule (which was quite extensive and surprisingly cost only £299), so that Hillwoods could see what was carried out, and due to our low mileage so far, they tailored the latest service for us. They also referred to Peugeots own service schedules. The result was we had an oil change, new oil filter, gasket and air filter for £239 including the MOT. When I mentioned the Two Year Service Interval, Hillwood Autos said that it would be advisable to have an interim oil change as motorhomes tend to do low mileages and sometimes a lot of sitting around, and a Boxer engine replacement is very expensive. What do others think about this?

By the way, Peugeots (Aldridge) quote for this years service was over £510 to including diesel pollen filter, air filter, the brake fluid change and the MOT! - hence went to Hillwood Autos!

It’s all so confusing! scratch head
