Broadway wood edging strip Empty Broadway wood edging strip

Post by Libraryman2 Mon Aug 22, 2016 10:38 am

hi, I have a very small problem with the edging strip on the main wall behind my passenger seat in my Broadway...
The edging strip is not glued and it might break off if I'm not careful with it....
Can anyone tell me if they are glued on by heat aka....kitchen top edges!   Or do they require a special glue?

This is where age of van is important in the profile!  On my van (2012) the edging strips are a heavy t-section that is hammered into a slot cut in the edge of the wood and are not glued.  Older vans may be different!.

Agreed Ron.

I couldn't answer for that very reason. Not enough information.

I would guess that it's hot glued, and the application of a not-too-hot iron would re-glue it - but it's only a guess. scratch head

A photo would be even better, plus the date of the van.

Point taken...thanks for the replies...the van is a 2016 model. Broadway EK.

This is the edging strip lifting away.

Hmmmmmmm.

You'll have to wait for a Broadway owner, and even then they may not know for sure, as it's not always obvious how it's fixed unless it lifts as yours has done.

It looks like the "T section" hammer in stuff which I would expect on a 2016 model. Has the little leg of the "T" broken off?? Is that a grove running along the centre of the panel edge?

Although it seems trivial in a way, I'd take it back to your dealer and have a proper job done. After all, it's a brand new van and you want it to be right.

Looking closely at your photo it does look a much less robust edging than on my van.  Given that these mouldings are a soft plastic it is very unlikely that a tongue has snapped off so it looks like an adhesive job. You may still see a slot in the wood edge even if the moulding does not have a tongue as AS will ahve used up old stocks of cut cabinet pieces even if they have changed edgings.
I strongly endorse Dave's view - take it back to the dealer or, even better, to Mark at the AS service centre - as I did when some of my edging appeared to have shrunk back. A dealer would have put in an estra small piece - Mark replaced the whole aperture edging.
AS Service centre is VERY worthwhile provided you have a few things to get sorted - they get it right first time.
Good luck - it is clearly not satisfactory as it is.

O.k ..thanks for all the replies, I agree the sensible thing is to return it for repairs.

In the meantime, I'll just take care with it.
I can't really complain about the vehicle as a whole, it's been great!
This is just one of several minor issues, waste level reading has failed and the irritating joint strips on the roof lining peel away at the edges!

All relatively minor and easily fixed I guess.

Joint strips!  censored! !  We have them on the walls wherever two wall boards join. They peel up at the edges. I lost count of the number of times that I had them replaced.  There seems no cure other than impact adhesive - which I will do when they get really bad. Luckily we do not have them on the roof - there we have robust plastic.
You may also find that the tiny half-penny size disks that cover counersunk screw heads also peel off - I have a stock of 50 which were sent to me by A/S.
