Wrinkles in vinyl Empty Wrinkles in vinyl

Post by SomersetLes Fri Aug 26, 2022 12:12 pm

I have a 2018 Nuevo and have noticed the brown vinyl that covers the padded shelf above the cab seats (apparently it's called a headbanger) has developed wrinkles in the corners.  Has anyone tried applying gentle heat to these to see if the vinyl will shrink back?

I have noticed this on new unregistered vans also, but see that Auto Sleepers now use a stretch fabric rather than vinyl.

I’ve read about it before but not heard of a 'cure'. When you think about it, a straight piece of material is not going to fit a concave curve without being tailored to fit. It needs tucks stitched in the corners to achieve a formed fit.

Rubbish isn't it my 2021 Corinium is exactly the same although not yet as bad, I will get it retrimmed by someone that knows what they are doing.

Pretty bad for such a costly item

Auto Sleepers will sell you the newer fabric so you can re-trim it (it's just glued onto the grp moulding, easily removed as it's only fixed with 2 screws), but I just wondered if it could be shrunk back before I go that route.

Pity they can't do it right in the first place really, my Lexus cost less than my Corinium and if that had a piece of trim coming away, firstly I would be amazed and secondly it would be fixed without any questions.

Ours was replaced when we bought it two years ago (with the same faux leather material).  It looked amazing for about 2 days then there was a day of sunshine and it did exactly the same.  Interesting about the new fabric, I wonder what extortionate price they would charge for it though. I did have the intention to re-do it myself with fabric but I never got round to it.

They charge £42 + delivery for a metre of the fabric, which is enough to do the job.  They commented that they use a special adhesive so you need to check with them exactly what it is.

£42 a metre? <gulp>

I think I might investigate a local fabric shop before I buy that,

When our 21 reg Nuevo was delivered the vinal was attached to flat boards so it can't twist.

Any chance of a picture so we can see how that works?

Our's has the wrinkle.  It would be better if it didn't but its not something that bothers us sufficiently to do anything about it, like replacing or covering with fabric.  I don't think applying heat will make it disappear.  It might make things worse.

Thanks for the picture. They have obviously redesigned how the 'headbanger' works. No doubt due to the wrinkling vinyll problem!

I would imagine so, we didn't know it was coming like that.

they didn't put a lip on that shelf though, this made it useless to put anything up there whilst driving.

So we got an expanding curtain rail, and a piece of pipe insulation, my wife found some material and covered it, so far, a year on it has stayed in place, only ever put soft items the hardest being a box of tissues but at least it isn't a total waste of space, lol.
