Tom Tom Go ---No Go
Hi
Had to go to Brighton Hospital this morning so, thought we would use the Tom Tom Go, which has been very reliable for the past few years, but No Go.
Showed the picture of the devise, but with a big cross on it. Have downloaded Google Chrome and taken Firewall off but still nothing.
Can anyone suggest what we can try.

Re: Tom Tom Go ---No Go
Andy... do you mean you were trying to update it when you got the cross on it? I'm therefore presuming you mean the TT device is not recognised as being connected to your PC?

Hi there,
Had a problem uploading latest maps with my Garmin Nuvi.
Then discovered that I was using a different USB connection to the one provided. Swapped over and OK after that.
Best regards,

Re: Tom Tom Go ---No Go
Hello Gents,
Thank you all for your inputs. My wife (who is i/c TT) was trying to charge it up and update it, but all we could get, was the small screen saver sort of picture, then the red cross with the device picture behind it. Then we tried holding the start up button down, and got a screen full of Data concerning the device, but could get no further. My wife informs me, that it had been rather temperamental on the previous trip.
I have tried looking on some of the help Forums, but got no joy, there does seem to be a lot of disatified TT customers out there.
Anymore suggestions would be most welcome.
Andy

Like Dutto I had a problem connecting my Garmin to my Mac until I realised the USB lead must be plugged into a USB port on the computer, not the 4 way USB extension ports. The device showed on the screen but could not be accessed. Worth a try.

Hi Folks,
We have the TT connected to the Laptop via a USB (in the Laptop). At the moment we can get a list of file folders, but if we try to open the file it says Windows can't open the files.

Have you got windows 7?
The reason I ask is that I recently upgraded from XP and now there are issues in opening files in media like sd cards.
Windows 7 is very particular in what it opens!

Hi there,
I think that is the problem! It should be TomTom opening the files!
Suggest you might need to download the TomTom App before you do anything.
Best regards,

To andygump
I am quite familiar with many of the older Tomtom models and updating them. However if you have one of the latest models then they will not show up as a drive on your PC. The reason for this is quoted below:
Why all the new "invisible" TomToms using navcore v10/v11/v12 cannot be cracked
All of the newer TomToms from September 2010 onwards (such as the GO1000 range and all VIA models) do NOT show up as a drive on the computer and therefore cannot be accessed or edited. The reason is because they are using Linux based file systems instead of FAT/FAT32.
This wasn't a decision by TomTom to make it harder for us to copy or crack their devices. This was done because Microsoft successfully sued TomTom for using the Microsoft FAT and FAT32 file systems on a Linux platform, which Microsoft claimed it was an infringement.
Therefore TomTom were forced to use another file system other than a Windows based one. TomToms run on Linux anyway, so the choice to use Linux file systems do make the devices run faster than ever before, as their file systems are generally more reliable and capable than the older FAT/FAT32. This is a positive for customers, but it's a negative for us who want to update our new TomToms by sharing files with each other, as we do on here and other forums.
Currently the only way to update the new TomToms is to use their program called "MyTomTom," although you have to pay for updating most things like new maps and safety cameras.
So far, nobody has been successful in trying to "crack" this new system, or rather make it possible for us to update the new TomToms using Windows Explorer. One must wonder though... how hard can it really be??
Below is a list of these models using navcore v10 or v11 which cannot be cracked:
GO 800/1000/2000 series
Via series
PRO 7100/7100 TRUCK
PRO 7150/7150 TRUCK
PRO 9100
PRO 9150/9150 TRUCK
Start 20/25/40/45/50/60 Series
Blue & Me TomTom 2 LIVE
Sony XNV
TomTom Connect
If you can let me know which Go model you have and whether it has an SD card slot then I may be able to help you.

Re: Tom Tom Go ---No Go
Hi Gents,
Having just returned from holidaying in Spain(without our the Tom Tom) My wife (the Navigator) had another go at the TT GO 720, a couple of days ago.
She Googled TT support and found a customer with a similar complaint. She then followed the advice given to this customer, from customer support, and she then followed six stages of instruction. EUREKA it worked we now have a fully functioning TT. She is like a dog with a bone , I was just about to place it under the front wheels of the car.
Incidentally Moggyminor, I have a TT GO 4D00.001 Which came with our Exec. It works can I update this model or is it too old ?(like myself
Anyway, Gents thank you all for your input,
Andy

I cannot get map updates for my Tomtom PDA version 6.1, which is why I've recently splashed out on a Garmin with lifetime map upgrades.

All the older models can be updated some to a lesser degree but the Go models are some of the best to update with up to date navcores and maps but you need a bit of know how as this is unofficial.
