Sorry for a probably too late response. On my 2007 Nuevo it is behind the habitation drawer under the wardrobe. The filter has a clear cap which un screws and the metal mesh filter then pops out. I now carry a spare cap as I broke one which spoiled a weekend away!

It is standard on my older 2007 Nuevo but would have thought all models have them

We have an inline filter on our 2014 Broadway to catch solids coming in via the water inlet.

We also have, on the hose we use to fill the van, near the tap end, a clear plastic Karchner pressure washer inline filter. It's remarkable how much grit, sand, dirt and even insects it catches from apparently safe drinking water supplies. I imagine in many vans these are stuck to the van's own inline filter.

Quilter you are right. As a plumber I was often surprised at the amount of sand in mains water. It does vary though.
I didn't know there was a filter in the Nuevo supply, I will have to take a look. I need to find out how to extract the Whale (presumably) submersible pump and replace it with a decent Shurflo one. I have a suspicion I will have to drop the water tank as by definition if it is submersible it must be inside the tank, under water. There are quite a few wires going to the tank -  four for level sensors, two for a tank heater pad, and two for the water pump. I can see another MMM article on the horizon. . . . .

There are posts on here (I think in the datasheets section showing how to replace the Whale submersible with a Shurflo. You don't need to drop the tank as you can leave the Whale in place, as I did.

Thanks Ron. I did wonder about not needing to remove the submersible, the only benefits from removing it would be a) less current drain if it was still working and b) less flow restriction when it stops working. I won't remove it, as it is not necessary. I am puzzled why there are two take-off pipes from the tank though.

I don't know about your two take off points but to connect the Shurflo you will disconnect the Whale so it won't take any current. You will need to remove the pressure switch and one of the wires to that is the live feed (I think) so you can take that to the Shurflo and QED your submersible has no power.

Thanks inspiredron, I have now found the thread for replacing the Whale. (That was yesterday, now I've got to search for it again!) I've done the piping plumbing and will do the wiring today. It seems that my installation is slightly different to that described on the thread. My battery and pressure switch, plumbing etc are under the offside bed base and not under the wardrobe as described in the thread.

Many thanks to inspiredron. I've finally discovered the Whale's replacement thread. (That was yesterday; now I have to go back and look for it!) I finished the plumbing and will finish the wiring today. My setup appears to be slightly different from the one mentioned in the topic. My battery, pressure switch, piping, and other items are located beneath the offside bed foundation, not the wardrobe, as mentioned in the post

Chrisjordan  - your profile shows you  have an Auto-sleeper Washington, I assume that's your location, so altering it to show your actual model will help get relevant answers in future.

Mods comment:
Chrisjordan - Could we have a reply please,  AS have never produced a van named Washington and it would help if we knew what model you had

I am aware that many people don't remove the Whale when they fit a Shurflo.  When I suggested this to the AS Service Centre at Willersey when they fitted my Shurflo they were adamant that the old pump should be removed.  I didn't press them on why, but other threads on this Forum and elsewhere suggest the clips used to connect the Whale can corrode and water trapped in the Whale when the tank is emptied can be subject to biological growth.  When I drain down my system I make a point of removing the Shurflo's filter to clean and dry it and to ensure no water is trapped in the pipe to the freshwater tank.  That said, running the Shurflo dry for a while should clear the pipe but perhaps not the Whale pump if it is still connected at least not fully.  These may only be small considerations.

The Whale is often left in when a Shurflo is installed. When I recommended this to the AS Service Centre in Willersey when they installed my Shurflo, they were emphatic that the old pump be removed. Other posts on this Forum and elsewhere imply that the clips used to attach the Whale can corrode and that water retained in the Whale when the tank is drained can be vulnerable to biological growth. In order to avoid any water buildup in the pipe leading to the fresh [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]tank, I always remove the Shurflo filter before flushing my system. The Shurflo should clean the pipe, although it may or may not be necessary.
