I think the first thing to do is identify the make of tap you have and then see if a new cartridge is available or whether it has a replaceable washer rather than a complete new tap.

There are photos of how to dismantle two different types of tap in the thread linked above. I would guess your is one of them.

Get yourself a shut off valve which goes directly under the shower head. Somewhere here is a link to one but I cannot find it.

If you type handheld shower head flow supply shut off switch on ebay you will see what I mean, cost about a tenner and probably one of the best little things I have ever spent a pittance on!! No more drips from the shower pipe and also I can now control the shower at the sink without having to reach the shower controls. up!

I am sure someone will find the original link posted by Gromit.

This may help ( see my post from August 2017 - the final one of the thread):

Once again, I extend thanks to members of the Forum for their helpful suggestions:

This time it's to Ploughlin who gave the link to a KES shower-head shut-off valve, and to Gromit for the idea of locating it between the shower head and the end of the shower hose.

It works brilliantly, and solves the problem of temperature regulation, and most (but not quite all) post-shower drips.

In the event I was spoilt for choice, but decided that of the 3, this one was most suitable because (1) I didn't like the plastic lever on one, fearing it might degrade; and (2) I didn't want the long lever, but rather the wider, shorter one which wmight be easier to push. Here's what I have:

Many thanks, gentlemen!

PS : the link in my original post no longer works, so I've substituted the one above.
