I'm looking for a campsite in or around Bristol. Fed up with trying to get in Baltic Wharf although l love it there. Any suggestions? Has anyone been to Hortham Farm just off the M5

Not Bristol but there is the Bath Marina site and you can P&R to Bath Station and train into Bristol.

I haven't yet managed to book Baltic Wharf.

You don’t need to use the train to get to Bristol from the Bath marina site, just outside the site is a bus stop where the X39 bus runs every 15 minutes Monday to Saturday and 30 minutes on a Sunday, and of course you can use a bus pass. About 40 minutes to Bristol.
You can get off at St Mary Redcliffe church, worth a visit, and walk to the harbourside, or the next stop at the harborside or if you are desperate for shops the bus station.

Try the car park behind M Shed. I was there with my car and saw some vans wild camping. I asked an attendant and he said it was ok as long as you buy a ticket for the whole stay.

Likewise can never get into Baltic Wharf, pity as I want to go to Brunel museum and the SS Great Britain which are very close to the site.

We stayed at the Bath Marina site last summer, it’s ok but not at the standards of Caravan & Motorhome Site.

But as others have said good bus connections to Bath and onwards.

Searchforsites has a lot of info for around Bristol including overnight spots. Even lists SS Great Britain car park as being suitable for overnight but I'd be sceptical about that .

I've managed to get in at Baltic Wharf. allthumbz

It's for the beginning of April next year, but I had to book it last August.  bow

I think it would be fairer if only C&MC members were allowed in, but assume it's something to do with the conditions the council put in for the licensing agreement.

The problem now with C&MC is you can book a year in advance, might mean you will never get into the popular sites. I wonder how many of these year advance bookings will be cancelled at the last moment.

You, too, have the option to book a year ahead. Booking early seems to be the key to getting on some sites.

Don’t forget that any cancellations could work in your favour if you keep checking availability.

I actually tried in August to book for August 2019 but they were already full.
I naively thought booking 12 months in advance meant exactly that.
So, I went online on something like the 12th to book for the 12th onwards for 2019 but it seems you could book from the 1st, which is why I was beaten to it.  rolleyes

I've been trying for the last 3 years to get in for the balloon festival but won't bother again.
I've heard there's a bigger festival at Longleat in September so will try there instead.

Oh no....I've probably left that too late now, as it's almost October.  shrugg

Provided you don't want weekend, there are currently pitches available at Baltic Wharf.

CAMC need to introduce a deposit on bookings, non-refundable unless booking cancelled well in advance. Too many people block book many weekends well ahead and only to cancel at the last minute when the weather looks bad etc.

I noticed they have pitches up for grabs at the moment but working that weekend. I agree CAMC need to ask for a deposit on clubsites that are very popular.
Has anyone stayed at HORTHAM FARM North Bristol please???????

We stayed at Hortham Farm for 1 night in February and wouldn’t recommend it.  It was muddy, with very narrow pitches and was too noisy from the nearby motorway.  I was prepared to accept the latter as I knew the location from the map.  What was less acceptable was not being given a refund for no electricity due to a power cut for the night we were there.  I didn’t like the owner’s attitude and wouldn’t go back.

Like others I’ve found it very frustrating trying to book a few days away at Baltic Wharf

In desperation I decided to telephone the site earlier this week as the dates I had in mind always showed full on the website.

Guess what ?

One phone call got me in for three nights Wednesday, Thursday
and Friday this month.

We stayed at Knights Folly Campsite when we took our motorhome to Bristol for re-upholstering. Quite easy to find and on a bus route. It was a bit muddy when we went after a lot of rain, but we were put on a gravel corner just for the 1 night. May be of some help. It is on UKcampsite website with quite a few reviews.
Knights Folly Farm is situated on the A431 between Bristol and Bath, on the Bristol-side of Bitton village.

Chew valley caravan site outside Bristol, has a bus stop nearby and one can hire a small car there too if required. I think from memory it was an adult only.
