Water pump (again)

 Hi Guys 
Submersible pump last weekend gave a slower flow in the Beckford so its time for piece of mind and fit a Shurflo
Question is which one for best flow rate and pressure. I do not want to over pressurise the system.
A friend has fitted one but the frost valve on the boiler releases water intermittently and its no where near freezing here in NZ.
I have also had a comment to make sure the taps are able to hold the pressure.
From reading the forum I know a lot of you have fitted Shurflo with great success but which model please
All advise really appreciated and I find the forum really helpful

Sounds good to me is the flow high enough it’s only about 7 litres per minute

Before submersible pumps were even thought of by AS the Shurflo fitted was 16psi. Those are no longer made and so the 20psi is now the one to get. Any higher and you may find push-fit joints don't like it.

I don't know what the flow rate was for the submersible, but it's higher since we had the Shurflo fitted.

There's only one way to describe it . . . . it works!! 

Hi and thank you for the assistance I have got a supplier for the exact pump recommended here in NZ and also did a test on MH yesterday to work out the flow rate from the existing submersible pump. I consider it has dropped off from what it was giving but is currently 4 litres per minute.
Is there a filter anywhere in the system ex the factory which may be partially block and slowing the pump, if there is I can,t find it

Hi Geoff,
There should be a filter on the end of each of your tap spouts. They can easily be unscrewed by hand - although you may require the help of a suitable spanner if they have not been moved for some time. 
Its a very fine mesh stainless steel type filter and should be regularly checked and cleaned.
I discovered ours had got clogged when the flow rate dropped dramatically and thought I had a pump problem. However, once cleaned they were back to the normal flow rate.
We only ever fill from fresh water taps with the Whale system but somehow the tap filters still collect dirt and require regular cleaning.
This would be a far cheaper solution, if that is your problem, then replacing you submersible with another external pump which will be noisy!

Thank you Liam we checked these as you suggested and they are virtually clean so they won’t be the problem.
Think l am still heading down the new pump road

           Shurflo make a filter to go on the inlet side of the pump to prevent any detritus from the water tank being sucked into the pump head, probably available from the same source that is providing the pump.

What do you mean by "pump head"? If the Trail King does have a pump head I don't recognise it as such - it's just an in line diaphragm pump.

Could you clarify please?

           Apologies regarding my terminology, by pump head I mean the top of the pump that contains the diaphragm and non return valves on which there are inlet and outlet ports it's the inlet that has the filter. The complete assembly including the pressure switch can be removed for maintenance or replacement / repair from the body of the pump that contains the motor.

Useful too as I didn't know about the filter. Must have a look and see if ours has one, and fit one if it hasn't. For less than a tenner on eBay it has to be a worthwhile safeguard.

Thanks again. I shall certainly be interested in having a look. I always dismayed my parents at Christmas as I was far more interested in pulling my toys apart to see how they worked, than actually playing with them.

They eventually caught on, and the Meccano era dawned! Ah, halcyon days! 

Ahhhh Meccano, the happy hours I spent playing with that while listening to Childrens Hour, Uncle Mac and Journey into Space on the BBC Home service, no telly those days.

I'm sure the time spent with Meccano and also the odd Airfix kit thrown in predestined me for an engineering career and a life of geekism.

For anyone wishing to fit a Shurflo, there are a couple of suppliers on eBay selling at £49.95 Inc postage. I think AS charge about £80 for the pump. Thinking of replacing my Flojet pump as the delay before it starts is getting on ours nerves (flow virtually stops before it kicks in).
