TaylorMade or Silver Screens Empty TaylorMade or Silver Screens

Post by Eltel Tue Mar 27, 2018 9:40 am

When I bought my first Motorhome in 2012 (2010 Burstner Travel Van) I bought a set of windscreen covers for the van (Fiat Ducato) the same Covers were also used for the second van a Knaus also Ducato base

Last year I purchased a new 2016 Autosleepers Nuevo EK

Unfortunately the old screens were attacked while in the shed by mice, and although probably useable if the fitted my Peugeot based Nuevo don’t look that presentable as when they were new.

So I am now looking to replace the windscreen cover and I am undecided as to which manufacture to purchase from.

I wish the cover the front air intakes below the windscreen and to be able to fold down the centre section to let light into cab during the day.

Being a Nuevo EK storage is a issue so this needs to be taken into consideration, as I understand one manufactures product is bulkier that the other.

Any help, tips or guidance would be most useful

Silver Screens every time for me, have had them on three motor homes, two different base models so have bought two lots. they are excellent quality, don`t take up much room and fit into their own waterproof bag,

You pays your money and makes your choice - and it's not a difficult one because there's not a lot to choose between them.

Taylor Made is a bit bulkier, but not enough to make much difference. The material they use is said to be more resistant to deterioration when left on permanently. The silver coating fell off a Silverscreen we had and it looked awful, but that was some years ago and only after several years of use.

I would suggest Taylor Made, largely because the ladies who run the company are so pleasant and helpful to deal with, and their screens were about £30 cheaper last time I looked.

Otherwise toss a coin!  content

I went to buy some before Christmas and originally opted for Taylormade.
When I rang they said there was a three month wait for them.

Rang Silverscreens who promised delivery the following day.
Also, their new product has the fold-down centre section as standard now, though not sure about the flap for the scuttle drain

Silverscreens for us. We always use the fold-down centre section to let in daylight through the privacy screen. We also use it as a permanent cover during the winter months, along with the scuttle cover extension piece. It's six years old now and still looks as good as new when washed after the winter lay up.

We have taylormade screens for the winter and silverscreens for the summer, agree with Gromette I would probably say the taylormade ones are a slightly better made product, it depends what you want them for.

For touring the silverscreens are certainly less bulky. Winter storage I would rate the taylormade as more durable.

What did annoy me a little was I spoke to both companies and the people from silverscreens were openly running the opposition down which I didn't like. Taylormade did have a production problem for a couple of months due staff shortages but I believe these are resolved now.

Bottom line, not much between them, both are high quality allthumbz

I can't compare the two, as this is the first time I've bought such screens, but Silverscreens get my vote too.

They're light, not too bulky and easy to put on single handed.

TaylorMade or Silver Screens Empty Re: TaylorMade or Silver Screens

We have had both - we had the Original One-piece Silver Screen which lasted a number of years and was in good enough condition to be sold on when I wanted to change to a version with scuttle cover and fold down, so we now have the Taylormade which is three parts joined by Velcro.

The TaylorMade seem bulkier when in use, so possibly giving better insulation, however when packing away they can be reduced in bulk considerably by rolling fairly tightly whilst giving the captured air time to escape. When unpacked, they seem to increase to their previous bulk quickly, so I assume the 'stuffing' is similar to that used in some roll-up sleeping bags?

They also came with elasticated Velcro/hooked clip straps for the front and magnetic Velcro 'hedgehogs' for the side panels which help stop them flapping in strong winds.

If I had to buy again, I'd go for the TaylorMade on balance.    allthumbz

I have had both makes, my current one is TaylorMade. Both are good quality and do an excellent job of insulating the cab, mine also have magnets built in between the mirror and door handle securing it to the door.

I have recently purchased a new set of long version Taylor made screen covers for our 2010 Duetto, they fit like a glove. Excellent product.

I also recommend Taylor Made, bought the long version in November, I don't bother using the bag, just leave them in the shower if damp and store them flat underneath the bed.

Thanks for all the responses.

I have been in touch with Taylor Made and have arranged to see one at the MMM show at Peterborough.

We bought our Taylor Made screen at the Peterborough Show 4 years ago. The ladies from the company were so helpful and demonstrated the longer version for us. It covers more of the bonnet and folds down at the top for daytime use. It fits like a glove on our Peugeot van and still looks as good as it did 4 years ago. We use it at home to cover the van continuously for 4+ months over winter. It keeps the van warm with the use of a oil rad heater. We have no condensation on the inside of the screen glass or other windows in the cab area. It is also very useful to keep out leaves and other debris from the drainage scuttle. Saves constant poking of the small drainage holes! As has been said the magnet pads and straps keep it tight to the van. We also bought a two cycle cover from Taylor Made, also a great and well made strong product, very heavy duty.

We’ve had several for different base vehicles, all Silver Screen. The first ones we  bought in 2000, for a Peugeot, are on our Broadway at the moment on our drive so we can keep the current set clean and dry. Apart from not fitting too well, they are in as good a nick as when they were bought. So, Silver Screens for us too, but admittedly we’ve not tried Taylormade.

As well as winter warmth, they keep the cab area cool if you’re parked facing strong sun. Essential kit, I think.

The people at silverscreens told me they were not suitable to leave on permanently over winter when I asked?

Yes - I forgot to mention that Hog.

The ladies at Taylor Made said they can be left on for long periods.

My first set of Taylormade Long version screens were used on 3 vans over a 7 year period.
Although they are not looking there best after 7 winters , I would have used them on my Transit if they had fitted.

I can only think they're covering their backs. Mine go on the van at the end of November, removed at the beginning of April. I've done this for 7 years now, and despite the harsh winters we have up here, they still perform as good as ever.

They always used to do a discount at the shows. The year we bought ours they didn’t go to the show but offered free p&p online instead.

We had a Silver Screen cover when we had the Duetto but can’t comment on Taylormade. To our surprise there were screens for the inside of the sliding door and rear doors with ours without us paying extra.
If took it off wet between stops it stood in the shower tray to dry.
