Boxer 2008 Clutch Replacement Empty Boxer 2008 Clutch Replacement

Post by ArtNuevo Sun Jan 28, 2018 7:06 pm

Hi All,
Have just completed a couple of weekends away in the Nuevo 2008 vintage. I think the clutch may be slipping. Under load revs increase with no gain in speed. This seems to indicate a problem with a slipping clutch. I have done some research and it would appear that this is maybe a weak point with the Boxer. My question is, is there an uprated clutch to fit the boxer and if so where can I get one. Also rough idea of cost for clutch and fitting. Have again researched a bit and cost vary quite dramatically. If done with Peugeot dealer are they fitting like for like or are they fitting higher spec. Thanks in advance for any info.
Thanks,
Jerry

Boxer 2008 Clutch Replacement Empty Maybe not as big a problem as suggested

I guess not many people have had to replace clutch on their own Boxer. Hopefully will get it sorted in the next couple of weeks.
Thanks for looking anyway.

Hi Jerry,
Sorry I can't help you as I have no experience or indeed ever used a Peugeot/Boxer but I am sure someone on here should be able to advise.
Perhaps it could be that there have been few clutch issues with that particular year of Peugeot manufacture and therefore little or no experience from forum members.
As always with these issues its best to get expert advice in the first place and then as many quotes as reasonably possible so that you know what your likely cost will be.
For future reference it would be useful if you could advise the forum of the outcome.
Good luck.

Hi Liam,
Thanks for your reply. You may be correct however had thought that with the much publicised Fiat and Peugeot reverse judder on the 2007 - 2009 vans that maybe some members on here may have experienced a clutch replacement by now, and if so was there an improved clutch. However after consulting a local motorhome specialist it would appear not. Peugeot have a fixed price online and am now going to compare this with local quotes.

We replaced a clutch in our 2005 Exec, but that's the previous model to yours so probably not relevant.

ISTR that it cost about £375 for the fitting at a local garage, after I bought the best quality clutch from Europarts.

Boxer 2008 Clutch Replacement Empty Re: Boxer 2008 Clutch Replacement

My previous motorhome was a 2009 boxer base X250. I seem to remember that those who complained of judder got varying responses by dealers. Some replaced engine and gearbox mounts with stiffer mounts.others replaced the reverse gear as it was deemed too high a ratio. Problem was the gearbox was not physically able to accommodate the required ratio so was a compromise.
Our van had slight judder as it was not particularly heavy and only on steep reverse maneuvers. Peugeot remapped our Ecu which removed all torque at low revs requiring the engine to be revved and clutch slipped to perform a reverse up a hill hence no judder. I got them to return ECU to previous map as it ruined the engine response and stalling on trying to climb Fiamma levelling ramps  but saw various oldtimers happily trying to reverse their motorhomes on sites with blue smoke curling up from under the cab and the unmistakable whiff of Ferodo in the air , oblivious to their clutch being incinerated by their actions.  If you have not had the van from new it may have suffered in the past as the commercial derived cabs do starship miles.

That sounds reasonable, if it includes the clutch.

I know that my mechanic regards the Boxer clutch as "a bit of a b****r to change", his face perceptibly dropped when I asked him to do ours.
