What type?

Hiya folks looking for some advice assistance. .we currently have a Peugeot micro camper and looking to move to an auto sleeper. .so far seen vw Peugeot etc.. in my price range probably looking around 12k any views on which type age etc it is a 2 berth we are looking for thanks

For your budget you should be able to get a Symbol (Peugeot van conversion) around 2000 year or a Duetto (Transit van conversion) around same age.

Go along with Paul but as well if you want something a bit bigger you could pick up an old Talisman or Clubman for that sort of cash

Thanks Roli..the sizes of both seem to be OK. .I'm more concerned about he mechanics and body condition of individual vehicles

Transits of the age you're looking at will have rust problems around wheel arches, bottoms of rear doors, inner wings etc but mechanics shouldn't be a worry, easy to work on and spares plentiful.
Peugeot Boxers suffer from front cross-member corrosion, rear spring hanger corrosion and sills. Also gearboxes have problems if water ingress has occurred due to poor scuttle drainage.

Can't comment on VW' never had a VW based motorhome. Plenty members have them and love them so I'm sure someone will be along soon.

Just to comment on Paul's post re: Boxers.
The cross-member which can suffer from corrosion is the one under the radiator, not the main one which carries the engine mountings, front suspension etc.. Its a bolt on job, very quick and quite cheap to replace - £80?
To be honest, I didn't know about the rear spring hanger problem, I'll keep a closer eye mine in future!  
Sills and front jacking points do suffer, although the sills are not load bearing so can be repaired with filler etc.. provided you get rid of the rot.
If you read the posts on here, you'll get the impression that every Boxer has a duff gearbox [as you would] but not all Boxers suffer from gearbox problems, although mine can be very notchy at times.

Just been Googling those, A Duetto / Symbol / Symphony will seem huge in comparison

I was going to suggest that you could have a look at the layout in my Symphony but its a bit far out of your way.
Duettos, Symphonys & Symbols are very similar inside.
