roof bars

hello to all
this is my first post so go easy on me ... we are the happy owners of a 1993 Talbot express "symphony" which we bought in June this year,all great so far, I am a keen surfer and would like to fit a roof bar system to take my surfboards, so I am wondering if anyone out there knows of a system that would fit preferably on the roof or a side mount version ,also does anyone know if it is possible to stand on the roof (I am 14 stone) to enable access to stow my boards on /off the roof.

How long are surf boards?

Longer than the van is wide I guess, but if not they could be stored across the rear, strapped to the bike rack if you have one. Possibly on a diagonal if they are not much longer than the van is wide??

Just a thought.

thanks pete and grommit for your reply I may have to ring autosleeper pete to get clarity;my boards are 9ft 2" and 9ft 8" grommit so they will have to be mounted on top or side of roof,but your idea would work for shorter boards

Have a look at www.talbotoc.com I think that putting canoes on the roof was discussed on there. It is similar forum to this but for Talbot Express based motorhomes and just as helpful and friendly.
