Sargent Solar Charge Controller Empty Sargent Solar Charge Controller

Post by plato2012 Tue Nov 01, 2016 2:29 pm

Following a trip to Italy when the temperature regularly reached 38 degrees (may be irrelevant but) my solar panel (80w) failed to provide any charge. I was advised by the factory that if the wiring from the panels has not been damaged then it is highly likely that the Sargent Solar Charge Controller has failed. I have acquired the relevant replacement controller but cannot locate where it is fitted in my Stanton.

Any clues anyone?

Hi Plato

I think the charge controller is fitted inside (i.e. part of) the Sargent PSU???

I think I would ring Sargent Technical Help if I were you, and get some expert advice. They have always been very helpful and accommodating when I've dealt with them.

That's right - here's where it is inside an EC328:

Other Sargent PSUs will vary slightly but are likely to be similar.

Incidentally I would not consider changing the controller without first checking the output voltage from the panel. In reasonably bright sunlight light it should be at least 20 Volts.

Sargent do a fixed price PSU repair £84, fix any faulty units within the box, and they arrange pickup and return as well. (not for EC325 units though).

Thanks for the information everyone. I'm off to our storage site in the morning and hopefully the battery top up will recommence (good weather forecast for Wednesday here, sunny most of the day).
