Warwick Duo Roof Rack

I am looking for a suitable roof rack to carry a canoe.
Anyone got one that I should look at please?

have you got sorted with a roof rack?

No. Tried contacting several companies but they were not very helpful on the subject .
Just wanted to sell me roof boxes.

We had a rack fitted by A/S think its a rhino and then fitted a Karitek high lift on to that, its been excellent.Tried to pm you but not allowed.

Thank you Paulmold, I have spoken with this company, thank you also and Bazil - these are both  independent roof rack systems. I was looking for something that would fix to the roof bars that are part of the Warwick Duo.
I really need to visit a Motorhome show and see what is on offer there no doubt to find a system suitable.

That's the route that I'm going down with my Kingham. AS are upgrading the roof system at the build stage and I'm planning on heading straight up to Karitek to get a side lift rack fitted. There's a nice CL, Catrine House not to far from their premises, which is where I'm planning to stay.

Do you have a wind out awning on the nearside of your van ?

The roof bars that you mention being fitted to your Warwick, are they actually bars that go across your van, from side to side, or are you referring to the roof rails, which run from front to rear ?

If you already have rails (front to back) then presumably you only need bars across. Any idea of the measurement between the rails? Most bars seem to be 120cm but I have found some which will suit 145cm between rails. Not sure if that's wide enough.

Yes we have a side awning but never used it.

Thanks, in which case you're not likely to know the height of it from the ground. I've put a request for info in the PVC section as I need to know how high the Fiamma awning sits, in comparison to the Thule.

Hi Paul (and Motorwaycafe)

The longitudinal rails than run front to rear on most Auto Sleeper PVCs are cosmetic only and will not take the weight of crossbars and associated loads. This needs to be checked before going to the expense of buying crossbars.

This is the very reason that I've had to go for an upgraded load carrying system at the build stage.

Karitek do a 'side lift' rack that winds down the side of the van, to allow loading and unloading of your canoe at chest height. Depending on the shape and weight, it would be beneficial to speak to them regarding your needs.

My last van had a rear ladder fitted and I was able to haul my sea kayak up by hand and secure it on folding Thule J-Bars, the same as I had fitted to my car, but it was hard work. Have you considered how you will get your canoe up and down without a side lift system.

These pics show the J-Bars fitted to the cross rails on both the car and the van. I did have to buy longer stainless steel bolts with the motorhome rails being deeper.

We had a couple of dealers who told us the rails would be ok to mount a roof rack on it was only when we spoke A/S who said no way where they designed to take any weight.

The Karitek high lift allows two boats to be loaded with ease but you still need to be tall to push the rack back across the van.

Trouble with a gutter mounted one is the awning that Wargenwolf is having fitted I think is mounted on top edge of roof which will be unusable.

Excuse my ignorance of how your roof system works, as I've not yet seen the Karitek side lift in the flesh. 

Please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm assuming that your kayaks are secured on to the Karitek rack, which in turn is fitted to your Rhino bars and they transfer the weight of the kayaks and Karitek through to your van roof.

In your picture, are the vertical bits that come down the offside of your van, part of the Karitek side lift function and therefore only fitted to the side that you choose to load from (offside in your case) ?. If this is the case, I will also be loading from the offside, leaving access to the wind out Fiamma canopy on the nearside, to attach a freestanding awning to.

I'm not sure how much, if any, of the advice offered to Motorwaycafe so far has been of any use to him, but I'm keen to pick more advice up if he doesn't mind his thread being hijacked.

Do not know how, but I have missed many of your comments since 6th Feb. By all means Wargenwolf, hijack as you wish -all the more the merrier. As time draws on I will have to start getting quotes for a bespoke system like the one used by Bazil.
