Autosleeper talisman

Any advice very welcome. We have a 2004 Autosleeper Talisman and it has started to 'chirrup' like a nest of birds on the drivers side. This only happens when travelling, not when idling at traffic lights etc. Have tri d to find cause without success. Is there a simple answer or does it need an expensive mechanic.

Can you hear it if you rev the engine or hold it at higher revs when stationary, could be a slipping belt.

Thanks for replying Dave and Bob. The noise is only when driving, not when revving! Weird! Bob in Balfron!

Sounds like something catching on a wheel if it only happens when driving, is there a twig or something stuck in a wheel? (remember the cards you used to clip on a spoke of a bike when we were kids)

Does the front driver's side wheel get hot after a run, sometimes if van not used much over winter the brake calliper can seize causing brake pad to rub and squeal.

I had a similar problem with my Discovery. When you are moving try gently pressing the brake pedal. If the noise disappears it is brake related. It may help to find what side if you open both cab windows.Mine took at lot of sorting due to one piston out of four on each calliper being seized. In the end it was new pads rattling in old callipers. The brakes on my Discovery took a lot of punishment because it was used properly. Yours may be due to the van being stood.

During my vehicle fitter days any vehicle that had been stood for a while always had better brakes after a size 10 boot full of brakes applied at 30 MPH on a quite road. At the road side we dreaded Easter when the wales were dragged out of hiding for the first run. Either brakes stuck on or electrics green and furry. A caravan with melted wheel bearings due to stuck breaks was a right pain.

 Thanks to all reponses! All much appreciated! There was no simple solution and the mechanic in local garage will look at it tomorrow....Monday..... it'll cost!

You havnt been over newly gritted roads recently have you ?   Its not unknown for chippings to get lodged between the disc and the backplate
