Ford Transit Duetto 2 Berth

Hi all just joined as i am looking for a good diesel or may consider petrol 2 berth Duetto any advice on any known issues much appreciated.

Welcome from N.E Wales. Can't say I've ever come across a petrol Duetto. As regards points to look out for , usual body issues on Duettos, wheel arches, bottom of doors including rear doors and windscreen surround.

Think I would stick with a diesel, as Paul says look out for rust on pre Mk7s (more plastic panels on the Mk7 that cant rust!) other than that the Tranny is a good base vehicle

Welcome from Brighton and good luck with your search, as stated the older transits can be prone to rust but as one dealer pointed out at least with a Ford you can get the parts easily. Hope you find a good one, we were very lucky with our transit.

For me it doesnt matter wither it is heavy oil or petrol as petrol is at least 25p per gallon cheaper. Also a petrol van will usually be skightly cheaper to purchase, then taking into account that most motorhomes dont cover large miles each year.So it is not clear cut that heavy oil is the winner I think petrol runs it very very close.

Thanks to all for the advice, got the body issues clear now as to were to look, mechanically i dont need any help in this area but would appreciate any comments on issues with the habitation side.

Hi - I haven't logged on for a while due to work and family illness. Are you still looking?  We have an M reg diesel Duetto for sale. 33,000 miles, in good condition. Was planning to put on autotrader today for £9,500 with driveaway awning, silverscreen and wastemaster. I am hopeless at working out how to put pics on here but if you might be interested would be happy to email some to you.

Welcome from Bonnie Scotland. Unlike Roli I would be happy with a Diesel or petrol remember Petrol per gallon is a good bit cheaper and motorhomes usualy dont do big mileages so a nice Petrol van is no problem.

Hello and from Leicestershire, good luck with your search, cannot help with petrol engines as I prefer diesel, but either will be good I would have thought, depends also what  is available that suits you.

I would avoid the mk5 transit turbo diesel Duetto. I had one and a sensor in the injector pump failed. These sensors are no longer available. I spent months trying to find one and eventually got one from a boat builders, it was the last one they had and it cost the earth. With the sensor gone the van wont run. Look for a no turbo or one that has an after market manual (non electronic) conversion.
