Dometic CA1000 Air Conditioning Unit
Amber compressor light isn't showing as the instructions suggest.
Factory defaults have been restored.
Unit still doesn't produce heat.
Anyone experienced the same?

I'm slightly confused by this - is it a typo and you mean it doesn't produce cold air? AFAIK (by looking at the spec sheet) the CA1000 has no heating facility.

I picked up on this post as we are currently looking into fitting an ACU on our W reg  Legend.

This link confirms that this model does not include a heater

I'd be interested to hear your views about its efficiency on the cooling side, though, please?

There has been at least one thread here before which IIRC concluded that an 800W unit is simply not powerful enough for daytime use in anything but the smallest of vans. The main problem is that the solar gain is so large that it will overwhelm such a small unit. Maybe during the night it could do some good, stirring up the warm air and making it a bit cooler...

For comparison I'm fairly sure that a car/van cab aircon typically has an equivalent cooling power of 1.5-2kW, and that's designed for a significantly smaller volume.

I went through the same mental process before our summer trips, and decided that I could achieve the same effect as a small ACU by keeping the roof clean and polished instead of letting it get grimy, and opening the vents.

Our Lancashire is fitted with the CA1000 air con unit. It is absolutely useless if you turn it on midday to try to cool down an already hot van - but if you switch it on in the morning before the van gets hot, draw all the curtains (ideally fit the silver screen as well) it does work in keeping the inside cooler ready for when you return to your van. Not had a van fitted with hab air con before

but it is very noisy.
