SEVERN BRIDGE TOLLS

Just crossed on M4 on a trip to Pembury CC Site. I am very new to motorhomes and in my Gloucester (3880 kg) I had expected the crossing to cost £19.80 for >3500kg vehicle 
. Pleasently surprised to only be asked for £6.40 
. Anybody know why?

A good result whatever 
I have noticed over the years when crossing with the caravan the toll has varied depending on the mood of the booth person

Motorhomes are treated as cars.
The Astra estate I drove for a several years paid car rate; the Astra van I drove for a few months - same footprint, lower weight than the estate, had to pay as van = double the car rate!
If I had fitted side windows at the rear, it would have become a car, even with no seats in the back.
Caravans incur no additional charge.
Note the M6 toll road is a completely different kettle of fish . . .

It's an odd thing that there toll bridge.
I had a Mitsubishi L 200 with a demountable.
Sometimes it was charged as a car /motorhome other times it was charged as a commercial vehicle.

They'd seen the weather forecast for all this rain and took pity on you.
Hope it brightens up a bit for you.
We stayed in Pembrey a couple of weeks back.
It's a shame the local chippy closed when the old chap retired.
We cycled into Burry Port each night and had really great meals in the Cornish Arms.
Doesn't look up to much but the food is great.
Slightly expensive, but take note that the lunchtime menu is still served in the evenings.
The steak & ale pie for around £6 is amazing.

Perhaps as a car & motorhome are classed as mot class 4,( & price) they have put a motorhome in the car category on the toll charge?

Been here two days now, no rain so far, cloudy at times but hot when the sun comes out, (most of the time).

Vehicles with side windows are charged as cars. Even when we had a big A class and towed a car behind, we still only paid the lowest fee on the Severn Bridge. It always seemed unfair, (though, happily, in our favour) especially when one day we followed a little combi van over, and he was pulled to one side, and arrested because he refused to pay the rate for a commercial vehicle..... The even better news, Ploughlin, is the you can go back to England for nothing! 
They only charge the toll fee to incoming traffic.
In France a few years ago, though, the outfit described above was charge as BOTH a lorry and a car!

"The toll to cross the Severn Bridge and Second Severn Crossing into Wales will increase again next year.
From 1 January, cars will have to pay £6.50 - up from the current £6.40 - while small goods vehicles and small buses face a 30p rise to £13.10, and heavy goods vehicles and buses will have to pay £19.60, up from £19.20."
