Sherbourne, replacing carpets. Empty Sherbourne, replacing carpets.

Hi Folks.

We've just bought our Sherbourne and we've decided that we would like to replace the fitted carpet with a type of lino' with a shaped carpet perhaps press studded over it. I'm unsure what is beneath my carpet at the moment and whether it is feasible. The floor feels flat and suitable. Any knowledge would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I think in some of the earlier conversions the carpets were bonded to the floor, probably wise to consult autosleeper to be sure.

wish I could swap my press studded carpets for your fitted carpet, had both over the years, prefer fitted.

Thanks Folks. You've both given me something to think about. 'Breakaleg', since I'm new to this game can you expand on the reasons for preferring the fitted carpet. Maybe there's something I haven't considered.

Thanks

Hi Steve,
Purely my personal opinion of course, When a van is built, fitted carpet is/was put down first, then the furniture (including under bed storage etc) was put on top, this to mind is another layer of insulation, it also stops any thrumming (is that a word) noise plus the noise of anything that is stored when sliding around.

Also, I find that loose carpets create more hard work when cleaning the floor (bear in mind that I have a disability where I can't kneel and I am over 6 foot tall, so anything near the floor is going to be difficult for me.
But, first you have to clean /sweep or vacuum the carpet, then you have to remove it and do the same again to the floor, then the hard floor needs a wipe over with a damp cloth, leave to dry, then put it back down again.
Whereas with a carpet, quick sweep or vacuum after each trip and a wash with a carpet cleaner once a year. mud and grass tends to dry and sweeps out easily, there isn't a lot of carpet on view and it's not that you are likely to sit on it as you might at home.
Just my thoughts

When you look for new carpet you don't need to but AS carpets. A good carpet fitter can cut and bind a carpet so that it looks like an original. It means you can have any colour you like.

Pete.

Good points. I've cleaned the fitted carpets and they've come up really well (weren't bad anyway). I think I'm going to leave them down and see how we go. The way you describe it I think it would be much less work !

Regards

Hi Steve, as I said, just my opinion, but given the choice I wouldn't buy another van with loose carpets.

Hi we have a Sherbourne as well 2.5 model. Used to have a Trooper both with fitted carpets. Use the stick on carpet protector plastic when bad weather in Sherbie. Both vans not a problem cleaning carpets up. :)

Hi Deb. Well we've had the Sherbourne for 12 months now and as you point out, no problems with keeping the carpet clean. I think they'll stay.
