Hi All
Have just changed lip seal on my exec c2 toilet as it was letting flush water out of bowl.
Been away for last 3 days and have noticed flush water collecting on top of cassette in the
handle recesses, anyone had same problem and answer to the cause.

Hi John. I had the same effect and I put it down to over filling the flush water tank. Not sure if that's true but not seen any more since I put less water in. I cannot really see how water can get out of the upper tank but what do I know! I replaced the large seal as well but not for that reason. One day I couldn't get the cassette into the hatch after cleaning it. After a lot of pushing and shoving I realised the top slide was not moving. It jammed on the swollen seal. BTW I asked a Thetford rep. at the Birmingham show if Vaseline or similar would do instead of olive oil as recommended by Thetford. He said if it was good enough for babies bums it would do for Thetford.

Hi Bert

Had you used any chemical on the seal when cleaning it?

I have been told by a Thetford agent about being very careful to only use olive oil as other oils would produce problems.

Morning ki. No I had not used anything on the seal. And I only flush the tank with water. I do not know how old it was, we bought the MH in April this year so the seal could have been 8 years old! I had noted the comments by Thetford re olive oil so I asked their rep on the stand at the NEC show if vaseline would be OK and he said 'if it's OK for baby's bottoms it should be fine for a seal' So far, only 2 months I know, so good. I have never come across this 'only use olive oil' before and I worked for years with all types of industrial seals. We had problems with neoprene 'O' rings swelling with oil mist lubrication but it took a year under several bar of air pressure. BTW the vent on top of the waste tank has an 'O' ring seal and that gets no lubrication.

Hi - I have a Thetford 200, and the section in the book on Cleaning and Maintenance is as follows:-

- squirt Thetford Bathroom Cleaner in the toilet
- Thoroughly clean the seals and valve blade, rub them in olive oil and wipe them over with a cloth or piece of toilet paper. Repeat the above operation if the seal and blade are dirty or if opening and closing the blade is getting more difficult.

Note Never use Vaseline or any vegetable oil except olive oil. These may cause leakage.

If the toilet will not be used for a long period, it is advisable to clean the seals and coat them lightly with olive oil. This will ensure that they remain in good condition.

The Representative that said use Vaseline wants shooting!

Hope this helps.

Hi

When I change my UV lamp tubes on my koi pond I seal the O rings with Silicone Grease not sure if that would degrade the rubber. Has anybody got any thoughts on that.

Being in the plumbing trade and having silicon lubricant readily available I have used it for quite a number of years on many motorhome toilet cassettes with no ill effects.

Works for me. Whisky. look here
