Electric hook up. Empty Electric hook up.

Post by whisky Wed Sep 21, 2011 1:07 pm

Having used camp sites for 30 years. 10 with a caravan and 20 with a motorhome. I wonder if others have noted all that time ago EHU was quite a rarity. Then they became available to you as an option. (would you like an electric hook up sir). But now most sites have either all EHU or none at all. If EHU is available then you are given no choice, you are charged for it use it or not.
It's not a monitary thing as a couple of quid is not that much in the general way of things. It's more about having the choice, would you like it or not.

Anyone like to comment. (and no i'm not a tight wad)

Hi Whisky wave ,

I agree we should be given the choice, now we are totally independent (extra leisure batteries, solar-panels, inverters etc.).

It's funny looking back, but before these extra's were readily available, we would have given our high teeth for sites with lecy, allthumbz

Strange old world isn't it think_smiley_46

Hi
My wife and I had the Electric Hook Up debate on our recent tour of Wales
She won on the first 2 sites (No lecky) and I got my way in the next 3 - Only cos I wanted to try my latest acquisition.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I was fed up of having to trail the lights for the awning fromt he 240v plug in the van, through the sliding door - which always had to be open.
So I bought a 3 way splitter off ebay (9 pounds) a plug (2.30 pounds) an in line RCD (13 pounds) found a surge protected 4 gang at home and "acquired" 26 metres of industrial grade 3 core flex which someone had "scrapped" at work.
Wired it all up and now we've got independent electrics in the awning.
And no - I didn't blow the site electrics up the first time we used it allthumbz
Cheers
Stevo

It started a few years ago with the CCs interpretation on new laws covering the resale of electricity. Some followed like lambs, others didn't but there has been much said on various forums, that do nothing but take up bandwidth and server space, sorry if I sound negative but will never forgive the CC for that

Stopped on a cl on the way to cornwall a few weeks ago, went to the hook up, and was faced with a lecky meter, had to put a pound in and turn the knob.
Haven't dun that since i was a kid, (turn the knob that is hugegrins )
Only used less than a pound all night.
Seemed a fairer way to me.

In Germany, for example, many sites provide electricity for which they charge by a meter reading - each separate outlet has its own little meter. Bit of a chore, but perfectly fair.
