Folding electric bike

I am thinking of buying a folding electric bike has anyone any experiances with the pro rider models  . Now I haven't ridden a pushbike since 1965, but have ridden many motor bikes, my last being the Triumph Rocket 111 2300cc.

Personally, I'd buy a trailer and load the Triumph on it!! 

I haven't ridden an electric bike but I have seen loads of them out and about on the roads on my push-bike and they look to be an excellent form of transport.

With regard to carrying them on a motorhome I wouldn't be keen on carrying folding bikes inside so I suggest that you start with checking out the weight limits of a suitable bike carrier and then look at for a suitable bike.

.... and the folding bike weight is given as 16kg without the batteries.

We have a Fiamma double bike carrier on the back door of "Petal" and it is rated to 35kg so it would cope with a couple of electric bikes if the batteries were removed.

The ProRider range seems to be pretty comprehensive; but not too sure that "as seen on Top Gear" is a recommendation.

A little of track but on way back from dentist this morning, just popped into our local auction house (general sale tomorrow) and there is a non-folding electric bike, an Izip CB26, couldn't even lift the back end. Checked on-line just now and it weighs in at 37kg with battery. What a weight!. Been thinking about a folder myself, 23kg for AS or Prorider sounds much better.

Thanks for the info Ian and Paul, I'm leaning towards the Prorider as on another forum I go on someone said his wife had an AS electric bike and he had the Prorider and in the third year of ownership his wifes AS bike was on it's second battery and his Prorider was still on the original battery.The batteries are quite expensive to buy.
Ian I can't take the motorbike as I gave my biking up 2 years ago, and I will not have any trouble with weight issues as I have a Lider Seville hard top trailer which I tow with our Broadway.

I would be careful with any electric bike you buy, just check with the supplier that they have readily available spares. A bike packing up few weeks later with no spares available isn't going to be fun! Nor is a £500 bill for a replacement battery.
We just bought 2 electric bikes from Kudos ( the company is just a few miles away from us so test rides were arranged easily)
Although we didnt get the folding one ( we bought a Kudos Safari and a Kudos Tempo) they make a Kudos Secret, which I tried out, and I was very impressed with it.
Battery replacements are pretty reasonable too and it goes very well and folds into a supplied carry bag with wheels and handle. I think it looks better than the Prorider too..

I've been looking on Ebay and some dealers are selling shaft drive ebikes, any thoughts on these.

I think the most important thing is after sales. Have a look at pedelecs.co.uk. Some useful info about what's good and what's not
